UPCOMING PROGRAMS
Recently the Goshen Public Library, found at 42 North Street in Goshen, was awarded a grant by The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut and the Connecticut Humanities Council to provide a four part series on the Revolutionary War and its time period. We are very excited about this opportunity and hope many people of Goshen and the surrounding communities will take advantage of The Revolutionary War Program Series. The Goshen Public Library plans to have musicians, an author talk, a living history character portraying General George Washington, and a historic textile talk on homespun and flags.
This series will occur between September and November: starting Saturday, September 11 at noon with the “Hudson River Ramblers”. The River Ramblers’ education programs blend stories, songs, and music into a cohesive presentation of oral history. Weather permitting, the program will be outside and families are encouraged to bring blankets and a picnic. You can check them out on their website at Hudson River Ramblers.
M. William Phelps will be at the Library on Tuesday September 21 at 7PM to talk about his book “Nathan Hale: the life and death of America’s first spy”. Nathan Hale is Connecticut’s State Hero and gave his life for our country at the age of 21. For more information please check out his website - M. William Phelps
The Goshen Public Library is also very excited to announce the arrival of General George Washington (a.k.a. Dean Malissa – the official historical portrayer of G. Washington at Mount Vernon) the evening of October 15 at 7PM. Place to be announced.
Susan J. Jerome, Collections Manager at the University of Rhode Island Textile Department, will be coming Tuesday October 26 at 7PM to speak about “Revolutionary Textiles”. This talk will include weaving, homespun, and flags: the textiles of the Colonial Army. Ms. Jerome is an excellent speaker who has a great wealth of experience in the museum and historical society realm.
The Goshen Public Library wants to thank The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut and the Connecticut Humanities Council for this wonderful opportunity to serve our community. We are honored to be entrusted with this grant.
